Artist Statement
The concept for this piece focuses on the Springfield Sports Commission’s work to develop and promote sports opportunities at all levels throughout our community. For this design, I worked with the Springfield Sports Commission’s color palette and branding to create a bold design that spotlights the variety of sports that are part of their organization. Each piece of sports equipment is proudly presented in the red, white, and blue of the organization under the logo of the Springfield Sports Commission along the top of the sculpture.

Janelle Patterson
Janelle Patterson is a professional painter who utilizes acrylic and ink to create works celebrating the joy and curiosity in everyday life. As a juried member of Best of Missouri Hands and a member of the Springfield art community since 2009, Janelle works to build awareness of the arts through numerous annual show appearances, teaching workshops, and roles within non-profit organizations. Janelle holds two degrees in Art Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia and previously taught both high school and elementary art. Janelle lives with her family in Springfield, Missouri.
